Matthew Piechnik - about the author

I’ve been interested in watches seriously, for almost 50 years, which means I started a good chunk of time before the Internet became commonplace in our country. I am mainly interested in the history of watchmaking technology, and my admiration is aroused by the artistry of ancient watchmakers, who with very modest tools were able to create innovative works of watchmaking art, without which it is difficult to imagine today’s development of watch technology. I traveled a lot around the country, on occasion visiting places where I could develop my interests, these were also the first antique exchanges, where you could come across various specimens of old watchmaking. Then I also frequented foreign countries, mainly Germany and Switzerland, where my attention was drawn to various watchmaking museums, but also flea markets or professional watch exchanges. In the process, I collected a lot of unique knowledge about watchmaking and gained experience in recognizing the originality of valuable specimens of old watchmaking art. Therefore, in 2005, when, while searching the Internet, I came across the website of the Watch and Clock Enthusiasts Club, I had already established quite a bit of knowledge and so, in principle, nothing quite new for me there, but after about half a year of poking around, I nevertheless decided to register on the forum. I quickly became recognized, and as my helpful contributions arrived, so did my authority. At first I made club acquaintances only virtually, but in 2008 I went to the meeting of the Poznan sub-table, where I already met in person very friendly watchmakers from my hometown, and in 2009 I decided to go to Warsaw for the national meeting of the Club. Here I received a very friendly reception and met a whole bunch of nice people who shared a common passion. Then it was more Club Meetings, every now and then sub-tables in Poznan, Clock Meetings, Workshops and more and more friends and colleagues.
But nothing lasts forever, time and the turmoil that life brings have already grounded me, and now I do not move much from Poznan, and cultivate my passion so more virtually.
